New Horizons is one of nine chapters comprising Shawnee Lodge. We are chartered by the New Horizons District of Greater St. Louis Area Scouting. As a chapter of the Order of the Arrow, we support its mission by recognizing those who exemplify the ideals of Scouting America, promoting a strong camping program, developing youth leadership, and providing cheerful service to others.

Unit Visits

The New Horizons Chapter is trying to visit as many Units as possible between February and the end of May. Unit Visits aim to provide more information/opportunities to improve the Scouting and OA experience for all Scouts. Whether your unit has a few or many active OA members, a Unit Visit is a worthwhile consideration.

Units can fill out this form to start coordinating a visit and to get more information. For those units who have filled out the form, you should be contacted by the end of the week, if you haven’t been yet.

Ceremonialists

Ceremonialists are dedicated youth or adult members who perform, or “team,” to conduct a ceremony or ceremonies (Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Vigil). They play an important part in the OA helping create the meaningful, transformative experiences that candidates can remember many years in the future. Ceremonialists need to put time into memorization and preparing themselves for the ceremonies their team decides to conduct. Being on a team is a rewarding experience to improve in speaking skills, presenting, confidence, and make some new friendships.

Elangomats/Nimats

Elangomats and Nimats serve as guides who support candidates through their Ordeal and Brotherhood experiences, helping them understand the meaning of the Order of the Arrow while providing encouragement, leadership, and a welcoming introduction to deeper involvement in the lodge. These roles are essential to the candidate experience and offer Arrowmen a meaningful opportunity to give back through mentorship and service.
