Hey, Arrowmen! Are you attending summer camp this year at the S-F Scout Ranch? The OA Program at Summer Camp will surely be a great addition to your week at camp!
The Order of the Arrow (O.A.) plays a vital role in the council’s camping program. Members of the Order of the Arrow represent Scouting’s honored campers. Please set the best example possible for all Scouts and adults to follow.
Day & Time
Meetings for all OA members in camp will take place on Monday and Thursday at 1:15 p.m. at the Program Hall. Please send at least one youth and one adult Arrowman from your unit. Topics will include information about the OA Overnight Program, Service Projects, the Unit OA Election, and the Call-Out Ceremony.
Call-Out Service Projects
In preparation for our Call-Out Ceremony each Thursday evening, we have a number of service projects that we need your help with. Projects could include building the call-out fire, placing/collecting smudge pots, building torches, extinguishing the call-out fire, etc. More details will be announced at the Monday OA meeting (see above). Participating units may use an OA service project to satisfy a requirement for the Camping Award. Speak with your campsite Commissioner for details.
Monday Night Overnight
Our overnight program, started in the summer of 2008, is designed to excite Arrowmen about the Order. Our hope is that participants will be encouraged to participate in OA activities outside of summer camp too! Youth Arrowmen will have the opportunity to join other OA members in camp with an evening at Huck’s Cove, and an overnight experience sleeping in teepees. Following the Huck’s Cove swim, various seminars will be held. They could include finger weaving, Ordeal to Brotherhood session, information on how to get involved as an Officer or Chairman, regalia making, and ceremonial teams. Other potential highlights could include Native American games, and snacks. The evening will conclude with a relaxing campfire and OA discussions. All Scouts who sign-up are expected to participate in all of the activities.
How to Sign-Up
The overnight at Huck’s Cove and teepees is limited to 20 Scouts per camp. There will be a sign-up sheet posted in the camp program hall beginning on Sunday during check-in. In order to accomodate several units’ participation, we must limit a maximum of 3 Youth participants per unit. Talk to the camp OA Coordinator about the possibility of accomodating more Arrowmen, if interested.
Where to Meet
Participants should meet at the pontoon boat dock no later than 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Be sure to bring your sleeping bag, swim trunks, water bottle, raingear, and any other items necessary for an overnight experience.
